Description
The Hammer Strength Plate Loaded Linear Leg Press is a leg press machine that lets you load quadriceps, hamstrings and glutes heavily along a tightly guided path. The sled runs on linear bearings, so the movement feels smooth and does not start to judder once you have loaded it seriously. Intended for the serious home gym, the personal training studio or the semi-professional space where leg work is the centre of gravity of the schedule.
Plate Loaded Linear Leg Press at a glance
- Linear bearings: the sled runs over guide rails on sealed ball bearings, so the movement stays even from the first rep to the last.
- Flip rack mechanism: you click the sled in and out without leaving your position, which makes heavy sets workable without a training partner.
- Up to ten 20 kg plates per arm: a range that will keep you going for years, even when leg work is your strongest side.
- Starting resistance of 53 kg per arm: the machine begins with a serious load, so even with few plates on you are doing real work.
- Adjustable seat position: you pick the angle that suits your height and shift the emphasis within the movement with it.
- Four storage pegs for plates: your weight hangs on the machine rather than on a separate rack, so changing between sets is quick.
- Maximum user weight of 136 kg: plenty of room for heavier users in combination with a full load.
- 11-gauge steel frame with powder coating: heavy gauge steel with an electrostatically applied layer, built for intensive daily use.
Heavy leg work without your torso as the limit
With squats it is often your lower back and your technique that decide when a set stops, not your legs. On a leg press you are locked in, the path is fixed and all you do is push. That lets you go further than with free exercises and train closer to the point where the muscle really is done. For anyone who trains alone that is a big difference: with the flip handles you lock the sled at any moment, even when halfway through a heavy set you realise it is not going to happen.
How the linear bearings determine the feel
The sled runs over guide rails on sealed ball bearings rather than over sliding blocks. You notice that most under high loads: there is no catch or sticky point in the movement, so you can lower under control without the sled surprising you. It also means the resistance you feel comes almost entirely from the plates and not from friction in the machine. That makes tracking progress cleaner.
Seat position and foot placement
The seat can be set to several positions, so the angle suits your height and leg proportions. In short: the further you sit from the foot plate, the more range you have and the deeper the knee flexion. On top of that, your foot placement on the plate decides where the emphasis lands, higher and wider towards the glutes and hamstrings, lower and narrower towards the quadriceps. With a single machine you can run several variations in the same schedule.
Loading and building up
The starting resistance is 53 kg per arm and you load up to ten 20 kg weight plates per arm. For leg work that high starting resistance is an advantage, because you are in a meaningful range straight away. For someone just starting out it can be too much: unloaded you are already training with a substantial load. The four storage pegs keep your plates within reach, which helps with ascending sets where you add weight every round. Weight plates are not supplied.
Construction and finish
The frame is built from 11-gauge steel with an electrostatically applied powder coating, chosen for adhesion and wear resistance in daily use. The pads are moulded foam, so there is no wrapped filling that starts to shift over time. The feet have holes for floor anchoring. At 286 kg unit weight the machine stays put even without being bolted down.
Space and placement
The machine measures 242 cm long, 166 cm wide and 145 cm high, and weighs 286 kg. The recommended clear working area is roughly 287 by 226 cm, including the room to change plates and to get in and out. For delivery you need a passageway at least 114 cm wide, so measure your doors and hallway before you order. The build height of 145 cm is low, which means a lowered ceiling is rarely the bottleneck.
Worth knowing
Weight plates are not included, and because you load per arm you need them twice over. At ten 20 kg plates per side that adds up to a considerable extra investment. Beyond that, this machine has a substantial footprint of 242 by 166 cm, so it really does ask for space. And at 286 kg this is not a machine you push aside for a moment: choose a permanent spot on a level, solid floor in advance.
Frequently asked questions about the Plate Loaded Linear Leg Press
How much weight can I load on this leg press?
You load a maximum of ten 20 kg weight plates per arm, on top of a starting resistance of 53 kg per arm. That is a range virtually nobody grows out of, not even after years of heavy leg work. Weight plates are not included, so you buy those separately. Spread the weight evenly across both sides so the sled keeps running straight.
How much space do I need?
The machine itself is 242 x 166 x 145 cm and the recommended clear working area is roughly 287 by 226 cm. That includes the room to change plates and to get in and out. The height of 145 cm is no problem in a room with a standard ceiling. Pay particular attention to the length and to the delivery route, because you need a passageway at least 114 cm wide.
Will this machine fit through a normal door?
That depends on your door: the minimum passage width needed is 114 cm. A standard internal door is narrower, so measure your route from the front door to the training room before you order. If in doubt it is wise to check this in advance, including bends in the hallway and the width of a stairwell. At 286 kg this is not a machine you simply turn on its side to make it fit after all.
Is this leg press suitable for beginners?
Partly. The guided movement is actually pleasant for beginners, because all you have to do is push and you do not have to stabilise anything. That said, the starting resistance is 53 kg per arm, so unloaded you are already training with a serious load. For someone just starting out with leg training that can put the entry point too high. If you sit comfortably above that, this is an accessible way to learn to push heavy.
What user weight is this machine suitable for?
The maximum user weight is 136 kg. That is separate from the plates you load, so a heavier user can load the machine fully as well. The frame is built from 11-gauge steel with a powder coating and weighs 286 kg itself. The feet have holes for floor anchoring, although on a level surface the machine also stands stable without it.
What is the flip rack mechanism for?
With it you lock the sled or release it, without having to leave your position. You flip the handles inwards to rack and outwards to train. That matters above all if you train alone and load heavy, because you can stop at any point in the movement. In a shared space it also saves time between users.
